.. where Ikea goes to Saaremaa and finds boots!

Hello there! It’s me, Ikea!

Guess what? last weekend was very much fun! and, despite all this rain, i took a lot of fotografs! so, it will take some time to sort them out, i’m afraid.. anyways, if u remember from couple of weeks ago i visited Hiiumaa, the second largest island in Estland. and i helped to build a little bit of bridge – over here. so, after just a couple of weeks, many giraffes and other friends were asking how the bridge is coming along. i had no idea. so, instead of sitting at home, we went to check it out – from the other side – Saaremaa!!

but, i’m afraid i have bad news. the other side is not coming along very well at all! check out – they even have put up a sign – it is all falling apart!!

and, i have to say, it is no wonder this bridge building takes so much time. because i went to investigate this mystery a little bit, and i found out!

1st of all, they are using very much ancient technology. consider this for time-keeping: a sun dial!

even we, giraffes, know that this is well outdated! because, u know, it does not show time when the sun is not outside!! like this exact day we were there. in fact, not only was it not sunny, it was actually totally clouded, with some of them leaking really badly. plus the wind. in fact, i had to squeeze the dial just to keep myself sitting straight.

2ndly, just a few miles (that’s like about 8 kilometres) away, the sun was out! what a bad selection of place to start building the bridge (and the sundial) where it is raining (and no sun). see below, it is very much clearish sky’s don’t u think?

3rdly – they use old windmills as workers!!!!!! take a look at this old guy Tõll (he is supposed to be in charge) here:

and, if u ask me, a giraffe, he has his eyes set not the bridge, but the bride, right next to thim, also an ex-windmill, Piret:

and, although i am not an expert on windmill sociology, there is one main problem with windmills as workers – they are stuck! stoned to the ground, so to speak. and they move, if at all, extremely slowly. so, it is no wonder the bridgework is not going on very well. mystery solved!!!

although the outcome was not so great, it was very much fun to investigate, i have to say! also, in the investigation process, i found some quite old boots, supposedly from the last century or so. quite nice ones, in fact, hehe! they fit perfectly.

i can secretly tell u that i went to test these out on my morning run. shhh!
so, what about you? have u visited any islands lately? let me know! have fun and cu l8r!

.. where Ikea goes geocaching with Undu

Hello there! It’s me, Ikea!!

so, like i said, me and Undu went out to test the signature items, the snails!!

our destination this time was Põlvamaa. this is actually the place where Undu’s parents live. well, most of the time, because apparently last week they had just left for vacation. so, we did not meet them. but we went to some fun places with towers and took some fotografs. also we found some geocaches in fun places! but i can’t tell you where exactly – it’s a bit of a mystery really. because they are geoCACHES, u know! so, the fotografs are from nice places nearby. quite near in fact.. but, i cannot tell you more!

so, to this first place, we had to take a little walk. it was Undu who took the walk. i was running, mostly. so, that’s why you can’t see me on this fotograf – i was already gone, hehe!

but i have to tell u, i got a little distracted by a patch of wild strawberries. in fact, i got quite a lot distracted. so, Undu almost beat me to the tower. because that was where we were going. you can see, it was really neck and neck at the towertop!

huuh, a little break to take back a few breaths after this loooong ladder. also for Undu because of his sheep costume. it was quite hot outside, u know.

and here, a group fotograf, hehe :) well, enjoying the view from the tower. look at these fun trees! it seems to me that these trees may have participated in running marathon or something like that. and it must have been real bad headwind!!

so, after enjoying the view we also had to find the cache! here’s me and Undu scanning the area for possible geocache hideouts:

(and i can secretly tell u that we found it!) so, this was the place with the tower. but we also went to some other fun places. like this one, with even bigger tower and a large of bog behind it:

u can see from Undu’s face that he is not so much fond of these heights, i’m afraid. luckily, the next place was not so high. in fact, it was more like a hole in the ground! with an extremely round waterbed – as it turns out, it’s a meteorite crater – very mysterious, if u ask me!

as u can see, not so many fotografs from these other places. it’s because we were running low on the battery and had to save some just in case something really fun happened. for example this one over here – a giraffe shadow in the mysterious meteorite crater water!! look!

i didn’t know that giraffe shadows also live in meteorite craters! well, guess what, not too many fotografs of caches or snails! but you can go geocaching too and collect them :) so, let me know what fun places u have been lately? have fun and cu l8r!

.. where Ikea travels in Hiiumaa

Hello there! It’s me, Ikea!

how are you all doing? im doing gr8! just came back from a little travelling in Hiiumaa. apparently, Hiiumaa is an island (similar to Madagascar, but much smaller) so everywhere we went it was sea around! in fact, you have to take a boat to get there. this was the boat that we were supposed to take:

but it seems like that one is more for cars, not as much for giraffes. but it was quite fun, with nice sun outside and wind blowing in the face!

as it turns out, there are many islands besides Hiiumaa. so, first we went to see, if we can help to build a bridge to the largest one, Saaremaa. apparently, there was this one guy that wanted to build this bridge already, named Leiger. he, however, is now really busy being a bronze statue and the bridge is still unfinished somehow… so, at here’s me rolling a stone towards the end of Tirbi säär:

so that’s about 800 meters to go still. but finally..

.. i’m there! so, this is where the bridge works is at this moment. so, if you are travelling here any time soon, please bring some stones as well!
after such big roadworks, we went to a sauna on the sea! i did not go to the sauna myself, but i was listening to the radio:

great fun, because we had to take a small boat to get here and back! so, that was pretty much all for day one.

like i said, you could not go anywhere on this island without ending up in the sea. so, for the second day, we went to the sea first, to get that out of the way.

not too much sun outside, but A LOT of wind!! wohooo, and the WAVES!!! i have to say, i did not go to swim. giraffes, like me – are not really good swimmers u know. maybe i will take up swimming one day, but not with these INCREDIBLE waves! but it was great fun watching! in fact, i had to run away from this spot that i was sitting many times because sometimes the waves came chasing me all the way up there!

so, later on, we climbed up this 3rd oldest working lighthouse in the world, with really nice tall steps:

in fact, the steps were a little bit over my head, when i was standing up..

..but eventually, i managed to get up there, jei! and guess what was there besides nice view? the WIND! wohoo, the same wind that had built up those monster waves had come along and climbed up the wall instead of taking stairs. how so clever indeed. so, here’s couple of fotografs from the lighthouse:

what an interesting small man looking up, don’t you think? i think his name was Ants, because that’s what the kids were saying at the tower… (u know they were saying something like – “hey, these people look exacly like Ants”)

so, that’s pretty much it! well of course then we went geocaching :) and also hide one new cache right in the middle of Kärdla (but that’s a secret for now, so i can’t show you any fotografs of that) 8-)

what about you? have you been travelling to any islands lately? let me know! have fun and cu l8r!
